Updates effective March 22

Tulare County’s move to the Red Tier brings the reopening of Porterville’s park pavilions and the Zalud House Museum. Certain youth and adult sports programs can also return with safety modifications. Due to steadily declining COVID case metrics and increased vaccination efforts, Tulare County moved from the Widespread Risk Level- Purple Tier into the less restrictive Red Tier in California’s reopening plan as of March 17.

Park Pavilions

Park pavilions and picnic tables will reopen on March 27 for small private gatherings. A gathering under the Red Tier is defined as no more than three separate households in attendance, including the host. Masks and physical distancing are required. Those with symptoms or those that are high risk of severe illness are encouraged not to attend any gatherings.

The Parks & Leisure office will begin to take reservations for park pavilions and picnic areas on Wednesday, March 24 at 7:30 am. Reservations are accepted on a first come, first served basis and can be made online or in-person by visiting the office at 15 E. Thurman Ave. The office is open Monday- Friday, 7:30 am- 5:30 pm. Covered pavilion rentals start at $60 per day and picnic area rentals start at $40 per day. Alcohol tags and amplified noise permits will be required when applicable. Bounce houses will not be permitted at this time.

Zalud House Museum

The Zalud House Museum will reopen on March 25. The indoor activities will be limited to 25% capacity and safety modifications will be in place. To prevent wait times during your visit, tour reservations are encouraged. Reservations can be made by calling (559) 791-7695.  The Museum is open Thursday- Saturday, 10:00 am- 4:00 pm.

Youth and Adult Sports

Allowable youth and adult sport leagues may resume after submitting the proper paperwork to the Parks & Leisure office. The required paperwork includes a COVID-19 Action Plan detailing how an organization will comply with all state and local health guidelines.

Outdoor recreational basketball at Zalud Park and Fallen Heroes Park is still not permitted under the State’s guidance in the Red Tier. The facilities will reopen when Tulare County enters the next phase of reopening under the Orange Tier.
