Porterville City Library

Dear Friends,

On February 18, our beloved Porterville City Library, built in 1953, was consumed by a fire. With the loss, we are reminded that libraries are so much more than just a place to check out books. The valuable resources and the knowledgeable staff become the cultural centers of the community and transform lives through education and lifelong learning. The loss of our Library is tremendous, but nothing compares to the two firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice while battling the fire. Captain Ray C. Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick L. Jones were not just brave firefighters, but, our co-workers, our friends, our family, our heroes. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and patience as we move forward. Monetary donations can be directed to the City of Porterville (attention: Library) or The Friends of the Porterville Library. Our Library staff will also continue to organize events and activities to engage with our community. We may not have the physical building intact, but we will not lose the magic of the Library and its purpose in our community. In the words of Dr. Seuss, ‘you can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!” #portervillestrong
